Disability Confident

We are proud to be a Disability Confident Committed employer. We recognise that people with disabilities and long-term health conditions bring valuable skills, perspectives and experiences to the workplace.

Our aim is to create an environment where everyone feels respected, supported and able to perform at their best. We actively work to remove barriers and make our recruitment processes accessible and inclusive.

We are committed to supporting disabled people and those with long-term health conditions not only during recruitment, but throughout their employment with us. We provide reasonable adjustments, promote wellbeing and work with employees to ensure they have the support they need to thrive, develop and progress in their careers.

What is the Disability Confident scheme?

Disability Confident is a UK government-backed employer scheme that encourages organisations to recruit, retain and develop disabled people and those with long-term health conditions. It helps employers create more inclusive workplaces, remove barriers to employment and make better use of the skills and talents that disabled people can bring to the workforce.

The scheme was introduced to help address the employment gap between disabled and non-disabled people, challenge attitudes towards disability, and increase employer understanding of how to support disabled employees. It was developed with input from employers and disabled people’s representatives to promote more inclusive recruitment and workplace practices.

The Disability Confident scheme is run by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) and is open to employers of all sizes across the UK. Employers can progress through three levels of accreditation: Disability Confident Committed, Disability Confident Employer, and Disability Confident Leader.

Jo Read, Head of Customer Services, says:

“Being a Disability Confident Committed employer is about more than meeting a standard. It reflects our belief that everyone should have the opportunity to reach their full potential. From ensuring a fair, accessible and inclusive recruitment process to providing ongoing support throughout employment, we are committed to removing barriers, valuing individual differences, and creating a workplace where all colleagues feel respected and supported”
